Power Rangers 2017 is a super hero filmed directed by Dean Israelite and written by John Gatin. about Five teenagers with attitude who is brought together by destiny or coincidence to become the newest generations of warriors called the Power Rangers. As Rita Repulsa , a powerful Witch and former Green Rangers , seek out the Zeo Crystals with a army of golems and a giant golden monster called Goldar.
To get started , I grew up watching Power Rangers but I wasn't a major fan of it. I didn't have collectibles , only a few toys but that's pretty much it. I was always interesting in the film ever since the first trailer because he seemed like it was going to be more of a adult and more realistic take on Power Rangers. There was a 15 minutes Fan-made film took a dark and gritty take on Power Rangers. While , it was cool , it wasn't met for kids to watch. It was super violent had really strong language. However , the Power Ranger 2017 film took all the things we loved about the original series as kids but added more depth to it and made it more realistic. Now , the actors of the Rangers surprisingly did a really good job bringing their characters to life and making them feel real. Each of the Rangers had real personality, issues and character growth. As a viewer , I was able to relate to some of the Rangers one way or another which was very cool because it was unexpected. Doing this project I mostly worked alone. The discussions that we had in class also helped me put my thoughts together while I was working on the assignment. I think this was a good approach. I was able to watch the movie at my own pace and rewind as much as I could in order to catch details that may hint at Cole not knowing that Malcolm is a ghost. The class discussions also helped me realize some clues from the movie that I didn't notice at first. The most difficult part of my writing process finding a perfect time to work on my paper . I was in the process of moving for the last 2 weeks but I manage to turn in the assignment in time though. I have to work on starting assignments earlier. I sat down and wrote this paper mostly on Tuesdays and Thursday because I tend to write in the school library but I ended up finishing the paper the day it was due. Like I just said , I mostly wrote this paper in the school Library. This is the best place for me to work because its usually quiet and I could easily focus. The topic I chose was " Did Cole knew Malcolm was Dead ? " I asked this question in my group discussion because there are some scenes that hint at the fact that Cole didn't know but in the other hand, here were some scenes that prove that he did. So I thought it was a good question write about.Woolder Saintilus
ENG 100 Assignment #3 : Film - Based Assignment Due" Draft 1 posted to blog by 11:59 pm on 3/32 I SEE DEAD PEOPLE In the Sixth Sense , M. Night Shyamalan is able to deliver a classic story of a boy who have the ability to see dead people . Malcolm Crowe , a child psychologist is shot by his former patient , Vincent Grey. A year later Malcolm decides to help Cole Sear , a kid haunted by ghosts that only he can see , these ghosts don't realize that they are dead and only see what they want to see. Every ghost Cole come across have some type of problem that must be solve before they move on to the next life. Cole remind Malcolm of Vincent , the man that shot him and this time he wants to get this case right and fix Cole problem. Cole tells Crowe is ability to see dead people , at first , Crowe decided to give up on Cole but , after hearing a ghost in Malcolm earlier recording session of Vincent Grey , he reconsider and decides to continue helping him. While Malcolm is helping Cole , his marriage is falling apart , for some reason his wife isn't speaking to him and he think she may be having a affair . When Bruce comfort her one night , she is seen crying about why Malcolm had left her , he is able to speak to her while she is sleeping , then she drop his wedding ring. Malcolm realize he was dead the entire time and the man in the beginning of the movie had killed him. When Malcolm realize he was dead, he begins having flashbacks of all the things events that hinted to the viewers that he was dead all along. Did Cole really know that Malcolm was actually dead throughout the movie? After finishing watching the film, this question was haunting my mind which led to me asking it in our class discussion. Let’s say if Cole did know that Malcolm was a ghost, he would be scared of him. Especially since we learn that Cole is very scared of ghost and he always run away from them instead of trying to communicate with them. When Malcolm told Cole to try and help the ghost he is fearful at first because he thinks they are trying to hurt and scare him. So, if Cole knew Malcolm was dead would their relationship be as refined? Another thing is that in the beginning of the film, Cole seems to dislike Malcolm instead of actually being afraid of him. I originally thought the reasoning behind this was because Cole mother, Lyn, tried hiring other psychiatrist to help Cole out but they failed. That’s why Cole told Malcolm that “You can’t help me, no one can.” Another thing that could back up the theory , was the fact that Malcolm constantly wear a long coat throughout the movie and when he got shot he was just wearing a dress shirt so; his wound would had been cover thus Cole wouldn’t be able to see Malcolm’s wound. So , while there are some evidence that Cole may not had known that Malcolm was dead , we also have evidence suggesting that Cole did in fact known that Malcolm was dead the entire time. Cole tell us half way through the movie that ghosts only “ see what they want to see “ We see Malcolm as he sees himself ,Malcolm doesn’t have the gun wound , he is able to put on a coat and change his clothe.. However, when we do see a ghost from Cole perspective they have the injury that occur to them when they died. So, there is a good chance that Cole actually knew Malcolm was dead since he most likely appeared with the blood on his clothe from the gunshot wound. This might explain why Cole seem to be against Malcolm in the beginning of the story, Cole could had been scared of Malcolm at first but Malcolm wasn’t as scary or creepy as the other ghost so Cole slowly accepted him. Also, Cole is definitely able to differentiate between a ghost and a living person. He must’ve have realized that Lynn and Malcolm never said a single word to each other even though they were in the same room sitting right across from each other. If I was Cole , I would had notice Malcolm was a ghost due to the fact that he is not interacting with anyone but Cole. After the play , we see Cole asking Malcolm if they are going to see each other again , Cole knew that Malcolm has accomplished helping him and that he is going to disappear . So , in order to help Malcolm moved on he gave him a advice to how to speak to his wife. There are evidence that support the fact that Cole didn’t know about Malcolm being dead but there’re very strong evidence that tells us that Cole knew from the very start that Malcolm is dead. We learn that Cole does in fact knows that Malcolm is dead. Yes , there are things in the story that suggest that he may not know about Malcolm being a ghost but the evidences showing that Cole knows he is speaking to a dead man is way stronger. In the film , Cole is a smart kid and he clearly been interacting with ghost's for a long time . He knows the differences between a ghost and a real person. The story is mostly seen through Malcolm point of view , everything that Malcolm want to see is shown to us . This tricks the viewers into thinking that Malcolm wasn't dead and that Cole didn't know he was dead . The Sixth Sense ]is a mystery and Suspense written by M.Night Shyamalan aka the master of plot twists. The story is about Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) , a child psychologist who just return from an event that praised his work. His wife Anna ( Olivia William ) tell him that “everything in the world including her is second to him including your wife “ Later in the night they realize they were not home alone , and a upset , disturbed man appear in their bathroom with a gun. The man ( Donnie Wahlberg) is upset at Crowe inability to help him. Crowe realizes the man is Vincent Gray , a former patient whom Crowe has treated as a child for hallucinations 10 years ago. Vincent then shoots Crowe in the stomach and later pulls the trigger on himself. After the opening scene we are fast forward to the next fall. Crowe seem to have survived the gunshot wound and begin working with a nine year old kid named Cole Sear , who seem to have hallucinations like Vincent. Crowe becomes dedicated to helping the Cole even though he is growing distant from Anna . Cole tells Malcolm that he sees dead people , at first Malcolm thought he was crazy and delusional and he consider dropping the case.
Later Malcolm listen to a old audiotape from a interview session he had with Vincent as a child. As soon as Malcolm left the room he heard Vincent crying and the voice of a ghost asking for help . He figured out that Cole is indeed telling the truth. Malcolm return to Cole help him learn how to deal with the Ghost. He tell Cole to “ listen to the ghost and understand them” in which he does. Cole later help Kyra , a ghost , give a video recording to her father. It is revealed that Kyra was being poison by her mother which ultimately led to her death. Finally , Cole tells Malcolm how to speak to his wife. As he was speaking to Anna in her sleep , his wedding ring fell out of her hand. Thats when Malcolm realize he was dead the entire time due to being shot by Vincent. He informed Anna that “ she was never second , and that he will always love her. He is able to move on . I thought the movie was great especially the twist . I honestly knew a twist was gonna happen mostly because M.Night Shyamalan always have some type of twist in his movies. I realize that Malcolm was dead in the earlier scenes of the movie. Malcolm wasn’t interacting with no other characters beside Cole. When he do try to speak to another character he is being ignored. Also , when Cole told Malcolm that he is seeing ghosts that are unaware that their dead , I felt like it was setting up for the twist. The movie I chose was Hush , this movie was directed by Mike Flanagan. Hush is a simple horror flick that is exclusive to Netflix. The movie is about Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) , a deaf-mute writer , who live in a secluded area. Maddie has been deaf since the age of 13. While she is living in a silent world , one night , her entire world shattered when a masked psychotic killer appears in her window. Without anyone there to help her , the killer decides to play around with her due to her disability. The killer underestimated her ability to survive and the movie is a intense game of cat and mouse. Maddie has to push herself to beyond her limit to survive the night.
Doing my academic mindset project , I worked by myself. I think this approach was pretty good , I was able to sit back and just think about the mind set I had once it came to school at my own pace. I thought about my earlier mindset from high school and compare it to what I had now . It really helped me put my draft together. The most difficult part of my writing process was putting my ideas out and organizing it on paper. I had to remove a paragraph because it felt really out of place and unorganized. I fixed this by just moving around certain sentences until it looked a bit better. I chose to write about Growth and Fixed mindsets because this was a topic I more comfortable with and it just felt easier to talk about my mindset. For this draft , I didn't follow my original writing process plan 100% , which was I was still getting distracting by social media. I find myself just cruising on the internet while doing my paper , whenever I notice I was getting off track , I just continue working on my draft.
In the article , Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research , Carol Dweck , a Psychology Professor from Stanford University , believe that “too many students are hobbled by the belief that intelligence is a fixed trait”. In a fixed mindset , people believe that intelligence or talent is something that your are just born with . Someone with a fixed mindset would stop trying if they come across a challenge , most because they think their not good or smart enough to complete it. According to Dweck this isn’t true . She believe that your brain is like a muscle that can grow stronger. Someone , with a growth mindset believe that with effort , hard work and dedication. Carol Dweck believe that having a growth mindset is key to being successful academically, students with a growth mindset will look at their failures differently than someone with a fixed mindset. Those with a growth mindset will look at their failures as a learning experience and would learn and put in more effort next time . Someone with a fixed mindset would try to avoid the conflict that led to their failure and just give up. She has proven that students with growth mindset perform better than those with a fixed mindset.
Now , how can you adopt a growth mindset ? Dweck explain to us the major impact parents and teachers have on a children's mindset. She theorize that “parents' well-intention ed praise contributes to the formation of unproductive fixed-mindset thoughts” This is because if you tell someone that they are smart and they come across a difficult challenge , they will try to avoid the problem in order to keep their image of being smart. So , the best way to praise a student is to say things like “Wow , you studied more and you grades on test is hard” or “ You did great , now let's see what we can do to make it better next time” Your mindset can determine your future. As I’m thinking about my earlier school years , I mostly had a fixed mindset. However , if I’m having trouble in a class and there’s is a good chance I could fail. My mindset would change into a growth mindset because I really don’t want to fail. For example in my chemistry class in my junior year of high school , I wasn’t studying for my test as much as I was suppose to and i spent most of the time in the class fooling around on the iPad given to us for the school year so , I ended up failing the first quarter. For the last 3 quarters I had to flip the switch and focus on the class so i could do good in it. I moved myself in the front of class , studied harder, stay after school for extra help and I ended up getting a low B. ( my first quarter failure really hurt my final grade.) My failure forced me to change and work harder. If I kept my fixed mindset , i would had just fail the class. When it came to math , I always had a fixed mindset. I always thought I was naturally bad at math. I just tried to do whatever I can to just get a passing grade even if it was just a C and I would be content with it. I never made a real effort to get extra help and receive a higher grade because I thought I was bad at math. As of now , I believe my mindset is a mix between fixed and growth. I go in every class thinking I’m gonna do good in it. When I thought I was bad at math , I didn’t go to a math class thinking I’m gonna fail. I knew I had to put in extra work for me to pass but I was willing to ask question if I was having problems in it. I know that I will be able to perform a lot better in math now. There are multiple ways to improve and I can’t say I suck at it if I don’t go out my way to do better. The literature, Teaching Adolescents to Become Learners [...] (Chicago University). Talks and explains and talk about four academics which are belonging ( I belong in this academic community , Growth Mindset ( My ability and competence grow with my effort ) , Self-efficacy ( I can succeed at this) and Relevance/Purpose ( This work has value for me.) The mindset I selected was Self-efficacy, in order to do well in a class , you must have confidence and believe in yourself but at the same , you shouldn’t get too cocky .
In my first semester , I was taking DPR 100 and we pretty much had to do weekly assignments that was posted on web study. Now , let me remind you this class wasn’t too difficult but I underestimated the assignments and I thought I didn’t have to put in much effort into the class. I ended up getting a C instead of a B or A simply because I thought I didn’t have to put in much effort to get a good grade. Also, having confidence in your self is key to succeeding in classes in general. When it came to math classes I had little confidence in myself, I didn’t believe that I could get a high grade because I used to think that I sucked at it. If I originally believed in myself and tried my best to succeed I could had done better. After my first semester , I realize that I’m capable of doing better and the first step of being successful is believing in yourself. (Sounds pretty cliché, I know.) In the article Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research by Carol Dweck , a Professor at Stanford University talked about how most students believe that intelligence is a fixed trait . However this isn’t true. She tells us that your brain could get stronger. If someone think that they suck at math, That person won’t make an attempt to get better at it because he/she think they’re not smart enough for it. Parents could help their kid’s brain getting stronger by properly praising them. However, you shouldn’t be praising them solely by their effort. If a child is trying his or her best but they are not making progress and getting everything wrong, you shouldn’t praise them. Doing so would make the child develop a fixed mindset and they would give up.
In the article The Perils of "Growth Mindset Education" , Alfie Kohn disagree with Carol Dweck statements about growth mindset. Alfie Kohn want to fix the school education systems. He believe that teachers should have different ways of teaching their students because everyone learn things differently. According to Dweck , In a growth mindset , people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work , brains and talent are just the starting point. In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities , like their intelligence or talent are only fixed traits. I have a combination of the two. I mostly have a growth mindset , I’m always willing to learn , try new things and take advice's , even outside of school but before this class , I had a fixed mindset math. I used to think that math wasn’t for me and that I just naturally suck at it because I felt like I wasn’t getting better at it. I would study for my Math tests by working on extra problems but still end up failing the test. However , this topic helped me change that mindset. |
